In 1879 in the case of SANDS ». FORBES there appear to have been 41 applications to Judges in Chambers and 9 sittings in Court.
In 1880 there were in the same case 34 applications in Chambers and 11 sittings in Court, and in the Opium Farmer's case there were 22 applications in Chambers and 31 sittings in Court,
and in 1881 there were in the case of SANDS 2. FORBES 11 applications in Chambers and 10 sittings in Court.
Of course these cases would not appear in the list at all as tried, as they are not yet disposed of.
The number of days the Court sat in the higher jurisdiction exclusive of Bank- ruptcy, Probate, Admiralty, Criminal Cases, and Summary Jurisdiction was according to a statement prepared by Mr. Sangster,

The number of days the Court sits on an average in Criminal Sessions is 4 a month,
in Summary Jurisdiction. 3, but I should say 4 per week. In Probate and Bankruptcy
and in Chambers every Monday and Thursday, and in Admiralty on Fridays.
The number of writs issued in the higher jurisdiction are as follows :--

Of the 101 Writs issued in 1881, 23 were issued in November, and 33 in December.
So that in the last 8 months ending 30th June, 1882, 188 actions have been commenced and the list for the present year from the 1st of January amounts to the 30th September
to 192.
On the summary side of the Court there are an unusually large number of cases contested and a still larger number of cases proportionately in which lawyers are en- gaged. The cases are often of considerable importance as the Court has a large juris- diction up to $1,000 or £200.
